Where to start?
Linux has already established itself as a server platform the company in 2004. But free software was not yet part of everyday life for most users. That's why Mark Shuttleworth put together a small team of developers to a most successful project of Linux - Debian - and set out to create an easy to use desktop Linux, Ubuntu.Ubuntu is the vision of the social and economic: free software, free, available to all under the same conditions, and funded through a portfolio of services offered by Canonical.

The Ubuntu team has innovated through participation in a program expected results for each six months. It was decided that every fourth version, launched on the basis of two years, would receive a long-term support (LTS). LTS versions are generally used for large scale deployments.Ubuntu is different from commercial Linux offering that preceded it, why not divide their efforts between high quality commercial version and a free "community." Sales team and the community work together to produce a single, high quality release, which are maintained for a defined period. Both the release and continuous updates are available free to all users.

The version 4.10, codenamed "Warty Warthog", the first official version of Ubuntu, was launched in October 2004. Worldwide interest in Ubuntu has been spectacular since the beginning. The following year, the Warty Warthog release showed a tremendous growth in the Ubuntu community, as thousands of free software enthusiasts and experts together.Ubuntu self governance is a bit 'canon, with the leaders of volunteers from around the world, taking responsibility for many of the elements of the project. It remains a fundamental principle of Ubuntu is the Ubuntu project as a shared work between Canonical and other companies, and thousands of volunteers who contribute their expertise to make a platform for the first class in the world to use.

The first version of Ubuntu is based on the GNOME desktop.Since then, we've added a version of KDE, Kubuntu, and Server Edition. All editions of Ubuntu actions and infrastructure software, making Ubuntu a single platform, ranging from consumer electronics to the desktop in the cloud and enterprise computing.Developers can work on your desktop of choice, smooth and code to provide cloud servers running Ubuntu Server Edition lighter.In recent years, emphasis has been placed in the light netbooks, computer online, mobile, and clouds as a new architecture for data centers. Ubuntu is a pioneer in both areas, with the Ubuntu Netbook Edition and Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud sets the standard for ease of deployment and management. Ubuntu is very popular on Amazon EC2 and Rackspace Cloud, and comes pre-installed on computers from Dell, Lenovo and other providers.Ubuntu is still and always will be free to use, share and develop.Hopefully that will give a light touch to the computer - and we hope you will join us to help build the next version as well.
